Mixed Media is an exciting process for artists who appreciate layers of color fields, texture, and emerging imagery. Participants will create small and large works that could include a... dash of acrylic, swirl of watercolor, packing tape transfer and metallic pen mark making. Using painters tape to create a clean border on 4x6, 8x10 or 16x20, participants will prepare the surface to be ready for action, including painting, printing, collage and drawing. As the initial layers of color dry, students collect, arrange and apply collage and printing techniques to create texture. Soon imagery and text will begin to emerge to unify the sub-conscious thinking with action steps into a composition of thoughtful craftsmanship.

All necessary materials are included in the registration fee.

This class meets in Sulfur Studios' 2nd floor Annex space and is stair access only.

Instructor Bio

Printmaking is a personal interest of Paige's because the process involves certain steps, repetition and opportunity to apply texture, a great balance of structure and freedom. These elements of art making do cross over into her lifestyle with loving to ride bikes, swim and make white cheddar sage biscuits. Paige grew up in Tennessee and attended East Tennessee State University where she earned her BS in Art Education then relocated to Washington DC for the past 20 years. In the last five years of living in DC and teaching art, she earned her Masters in Art Education at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. As one of the four DC public school teachers to receive a full scholarship, with gratitude she continues to seek opportunities to share her experience in the studio classroom.
