In this two day class, students will learn the basics of mixing and pouring resin. Resin is a two part epoxy that dries hard and clear when mixed properly. It is an excellent addition to jewelry and painting techniques. The class will meet from noon to 4pm on Saturday AND noon to 3pm on Sunday, with the possibility of additional work time on Sunday afternoon.
Day one of the class will be spent learning about and using resin. The resin will then cure for 24 hours, and on day two students will take the resin pieces, clean them up, and turn them into jewelry. Students will learn to add jump rings, ear wires, chain, and additional beads to augment your focal piece. Some drilling and filing may be required to attach the resin pieces to the jewelry findings.
Students will create unique, one a kind mixed media pieces of jewelry using some basic techniques. We will play with adding color through using metallic pigment powders, acrylic paint and alcohol inks as well as discuss other ways color can be added to resin. We will learn about the different kinds of bezels that can be used and how to work with backless bezels. The different viscosities of resin will be explored and you will learn how to use drying time in your favor. Also, items can be brought to class such as shells, gears, charms, to be suspended in resin to complete your pieces.
The instructor will provide resin, alcohol ink and other colorants, various bezels, and charms. There will be unique pieces available for an additional charge depending on the item. You are also welcome to bring pieces that you would like to discuss using resin with or to include in your pieces.
This class meets in the 2nd floor multipurpose space at Sulfur Studios and is stair access only.
Open to students of all levels.
