Sulfur Studios Community Darkroom
We now offer a film developing darkroom that may be used for black and white film developing, alternative processes and contact printing, including cyanotype, salt printing and platinum printing. The space is not appropriate for toning or color film chemistry. An additional space for printing is in development.
Darkroom membership includes Sprint developing chemicals and basic tools, including:
Developing tanks: 2 reel, 8 reel and 4 x 5
Film drying cabinet
Deep sink and countertop
Members planning to do alternative processes must bring their own chemicals, and must take them with them when they leave.
Monthly memberships cost:
$35.00 for Students and young professionals (under 30 years old) and studio renters.
$50.00 for all other members.
You may purchase a 3 month membership for $125.00.
How to become a Darkroom member:
If you have experience working in a darkroom please fill out this Form to give us some more information about your experience and practice. We will then schedule an orientation to familiarize you with our space, including safety procedures and house rules. This orientation costs $15.00, which can be applied to your first month's membership should you choose to join.
If you do not have Darkroom experience we require you to take our Intro to Film Development Class before becoming a member.
Darkroom members may use the space 12pm to 5pm Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Additional hours may be added as membership grows. Film developed on Saturday that is not dry before you leave may be picked up by appointment earlier in the week.
All members must schedule their time in advance via our online scheduling app.
