Out of Context: Graffiti and Street Art in the Gallery

Out of Context: Graffiti and Street Art in the Gallery

Sulfur Studios invites artists working in all mediums to submit artwork that is inspired by graffiti and street art to be displayed in a gallery setting.  How does the context of the gallery change the impact the work has on the viewer?   What happens when the work is removed from the street and placed in a white box environment?  How does this transition from public to private spheres alter the reception of the work’s message? Does this in some way legitimize street art, or remove its integrity?

2-d, 3-d, and time based media are all eligible for this call.

Work must be under 7ft tall, weigh less than 75lbs and fit through a standard size door.  Artists are responsible for delivery to and from the gallery and insuring their work.
