Lizzy Taber - "Gradients: Exploring Rising Tides"

“Gradients: Exploring Rising Tides” Project Description

As the level of the sea slowly rises – I begin to question time. I think about what does it mean to be slow? How does something so subtle and slow creep up and effect land, humanity and future generations? These questions can be examined through poetic responses from the community and creative output.

My ON::VIEW residency project will convey and express not only my response to, but visual data of sea level rise. Sea level rise is one of the biggest threats to coastal cities, and Savannah is subject to many detriments due to climate change. In the four weeks at Sulfur Studios, I will utilize the space to work on a new series of paintings that address these issues.

Funding for Lizzy’s project has been made possible in part by the 2018 DIY Fund from Meow Wolf. Sulfur Studios was chosen by Meow Wolf as 1 of 130 organizations in 30 states for funding in 2019. Meow Wolf is an arts and entertainment group based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They were established in 2008 as an art collective. Meow Wolf creates immersive and interactive experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. Meow Wolf believes that accomplished artists must be compensated on an equal level with other skilled, in-demand professionals, and that successful businesses must give back to -- and participate energetically in – their communities. Meow Wolf provides financial assistance, expertise, and other forms of active support, and are excited to support innovative, community-focused art and social projects.
