About Deep Center:
“Deep Center empowers Savannah’s young people to thrive as learners, community leaders, and agents of change. Through creative writing, cultural production, and art, Deep creates platforms for the city’s youth and the village of support around them, including their families and adult allies, to share stories, engage in debates, and make Savannah a more just and equitable place.
Deep Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was founded in 2008 to address the detrimental effects of poverty on literacy in Savannah, Georgia. During our first year, we hosted free creative-writing workshops for 24 young people from two local public schools and published one book of writing.”
Xuluprophet’s single release last year, ‘Beyond Local’ also served as a benefit for Deep Center. The band has several organizations that they support with periodic events: Safe Shelter Center For Domestic Violence, Loop it Up Savannah, Deep Center, and most recently Park Place.
More about the performers:
Clay Hodges: Dubbed, “The Voice of Savannah” by TheGeorgia Media Agency, Clay Hodges is truly a gift to his community and the world. Clay’s introduction to music came from his mother, a classically trained pianist and his father, who exposed Clay to a diverse catalog of music.Born and raised on the east side of Savannah made Clay see and experience things that inspired him to use his music for the greater good. Since then he has been consistently releasing music and performing across the country. As Clay’s influence grows his mission to make a difference stays the same.
Xuluprophet: The groove heavy rhythmic style has roots in Caribbean and latin rhythms. Xuluprophet gets compared to artists as varied as The Police, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Bad Brains and Primus.
Mostly dance and party music, the lyrical message is political and spiritual. Drawing from their Reggae roots they wish to influence the listener to better themselves and the world around them through the power of music and song.
INSTRUMENTAL ∆JE: “A stationary traveler, Aje sees the world through the universal energy connecting our minds eye.”
