Slow Fashion Discussion Panel

Current ON::VIEW resident Michelle Quick hosts a discussion panel focused on the life-cycle of garments and fashion products. Local artists, designers, and retailers will discuss the importance of a circular fashion system and how to keep garments and products out of the landfill through sustainable design practices, secondhand sales, donating, and upcycling. 

45 min discussion with 15 min Q & A from the audience. Moderated by Doris Treptow-Kovacs , Professor of Fashion at SCAD. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Panel members include:

Joseph Malson is an artist and clothing maker who is currently a co-manager of Civvies on Broughton. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD.

Krystal Sokolis is an artist who works in a variety of mediums including wood, leather, painting, and textiles. She received her BFA in Accessory Design from SCAD and is currently pursuing her MFA with a focus on Sustainable Design. She runs Ophilya Handmade (, where she creates one-of-a-kind accessories from upcycled materials. Krystal recently founded The Revival Society (, a collaborative team of designers working to solve issues of waste in the Savannah community.

Raine Raine is a co-manager and buyer at Civvies on Broughton. They are interested in the sociopolitical lifetime of garments and the way the fashion industry, marginalization, and emerging slow fashion movements affect trends.

Kori Nicole, also known as K. Nicole (, is pursuing a BFA in fashion marketing and management with a minor in fashion photography at SCAD, presenting an interesting twist on fashion design as a crochet designer of handmade clothing, accessories, and home decor pieces. She has showcased her creations on a variety of platforms, including the Aesthetic Art Show and SCAD Residence Life Fashion Show in Savannah. K.'s crochet designs are available House of Strut, a local Savannah boutique. She also has a YouTube channel where she shares her design visuals, beauty tips, and blog work to inspire her growing following of 1,904 subscribers.
