August First Friday Festivities!

Join us on Friday, August 3rd from 6 – 9PM for a fully loaded evening of open studios, contemporary jewelry, arts & crafts vendors, art installations and the Sulfur Studios Street Fair!

On display in the Gallery: "Breaking Through" is a group exhibition that aims to increase the awareness of contemporary jewelry in the Savannah community. Curated by Qiong Wu, an M.A. candidate majoring in Business Design & Arts Leadership and Jewelry Design at SCAD, the exhibition involves about 40 pieces of jewelry from 4 artists: Shuoyuan Bai, Zihan Yang, Miao He, and Xiangyin Shi. Breaking Through runs from August 3rd – 5th, and may be seen during the gallery’s business hours, Friday – Sunday, noon to 5PM.

ON::VIEW Artist-in-Residency: "Shoemaking Demystified," by Michelle Quick.

Quick has been busy working in the Artist Residence space in the front of Sulfur Studios since June 12th, hosting several workshops and demonstration days with the public, as well as a panel discussion on slow fashion moderated by Doris Treptow-Kovacs, Professor of Fashion at SCAD. She has used the ‘on-view’ aspect of the residency to demystify the process of shoemaking and educate viewers about how an object that they interact with every day– shoes - are made. Come see how she transformed the studio space into a development lab and shoe production facility.

Upstairs in the Annex: Kevin Clancy’s immersive installation, "What So Proudly We Hail’d". Clancy will be receiving an M.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2018 and received a B.S. in visual arts from Bethany College, West Virginia, in 2009. He explores political meta-narratives in his art practice using loaded symbols such as the United States flag as a critique of social, cultural and ethical systems. (Also look for a performance in the Cultural Arts Gallery at 9 W. Henry St. from 5-8PM on August 3rd, and a closing reception there as well on Saturday August 4th from 12-5PM.)
