“Where I come from we say that rhythm is the soul of life, because the whole universe

revolves around rhythm, and when we get out of rhythm, that’s when we get into trouble.”

– Babatunde Olatunji, drummer, educator, social activist and recording artist

“The photograph is always changing, just like music is always changing.

It can be rhythmic, it can be harmonious, have open spaces and repetition.”

– Frank Stewart, photographer, as quoted in Nexus (Jepson Center, 2024)

Visual art can evoke movement even when static. Whether through rhythm, pattern, repetition, gesture, direction, or optical illusion, images can elicit change and energy, shifting the perspectives of both viewer and maker. For this second Supporter Call for Entry of 2024, our Artist Supporters are invited to share work that contains rhythm, whether through subject matter or elements of design and composition. Show us your moves! Submit up to 4 works in any medium – including written descriptions is highly encouraged.

Good Vibrations will be on display in the ARTS Southeast Supporter Gallery from May 16th – August 10th, 2024, with an Opening Reception on Friday, June 7th from 5 – 9PM and a Closing Reception on Friday, August 2nd, 2024 from 5 – 9PM in conjunction with First Fridays in Starland.

About the Supporter Gallery

The Supporter Gallery at Sulfur Studios, established in 2022, is a dedicated space where Artist Supporters have three exhibition opportunities per year. Encircling our central gallery and running along a loop of artist studios, it is a high-visibility space in the heart of our community, showcasing our Supporters and helping to set the tone of our creative space. Running in tandem with Main Gallery exhibitions and Artist Residency projects, it exists in conversation with events throughout the year. The Supporter Gallery strives to support and uplift emerging and established artists through every step of the exhibition process. Questions about the application or results are always welcome. Artists should contact the Supporter Gallery curator, Samantha Mack, with any questions: sam@artssoutheast.org

Please note: ARTS Southeast Supporters are guaranteed entry into a minimum of one Supporter exhibition per year. Acceptance to every Supporter exhibition is not guaranteed.
